Thumbs Up for Umbra
Dear Editor,
The new Umbra Fisk column (“Go Greener,” Sept.) is a great addition to your magazine. I have enjoyed her work for Grist.com for some time.
I found her answer on why organic food is so expensive to be enlightening, particularly since I have always thought buying pesticide-free food is always worth the extra money.
She is right on about organic farmers not getting enough support from our government. We might be lulled into a false sense about the low cost of conventionally grown produce subsidized by government, but I still say my organic tomatoes taste better than conventional any time, any meal.

Banding Togther
Dear Editor,
Appreciated the info about Pearl Jam (Mindful Living, Sept.) donating some profits to eco-activists here in the Northwest. Very cool.
Pearl Jam’s band members are clearly able to use celebrity to call attention to the important issue of global warming and climate control (hey, how about some new songs on the subject, too?). But what impresses me just as much is how the band members get that one action can help us create change.
We’re all in this together, on this Earth. So we can all do something positive as individuals, no matter how little we think the action might represent. And we can all look for organizations or groups that we can help persuade to make the right choices for the planet.
Over and out,

Giving Peace a Chance
Dear Editor,
I would like to report some amazing news.
I just learned the Seattle Center For Peace will have a sister center for peace in downtown Vancouver, B.C. by 2009. The Dalai Lama is building the Dalai Lama Peace and Education Center. Check out www.dalailamacenter.org for more details.
Peace is on the move!!!
