Springing into action to share, break through

By James Jarvis, M.A.

Spring is about initiation; tuning into the wisdom gained in the dark days of winter and bringing it into the light. This requires action: sharing more of who we are, breaking through whatever holds us back (like the seed) and germinating our ideas for the coming year.

Mercury in Pisces is retrograde March 2 (3:39 am) until March 25 (8:36 am), so "mindfulness" in all forms of communication is essential. Mercury retrograde in Pisces highlights wherever you are not skillful in your communications and where new skills of compassion need to be developed.

With Venus in Aquarius from March 5-April 6 you have an opportunity to broaden your personal value system. Venus in Aquarius helps you envision a new paradigm of relationship that is in sharp contrast to the traditional co-dependent model. Let Venus in Aquarius help open your heart to greater intimacy and authenticity in all of your relationships.

The full moon at 24 degrees Virgo March 14, (6:36 p.m.) helps you nurture the relationship between body and mind. Use this next month to determine what your body needs to support your emotional health. Maybe it needs more exercise, better nutrition or more attention paid to your diet. Use the positive qualities of Virgo, discernment and discrimination, to put your life and daily routine into increasingly coherent order.

Jupiter in Scorpio retrogrades March 4-July 6, and then squares Neptune in Aquarius March 16-28 increasing our idealism and vision. Take some time to engage your imagination.

The Sun in Aries March 20 (1:26 pm) heralds the Spring Equinox of equal days and nights. Aries is symbolized by the catalytic process and by acts of initiation and innovation. Our job during Aries is to spring into action in new and innovative ways.

Mars in Gemini is in a challenging relationship with Jupiter in Scorpio from March 23 and 24. Try balancing your need to get things done (Mars) with your desire for deep connection with others (Jupiter in Scorpio).

The new moon and total solar eclipse at 8 degrees Aries March 29, ( 5:16 am) asks us to speak out about what we need for emotional fulfillment. If there are any projects you’ve been putting off, use the new moon energy to get motivated.

Pluto will go retrograde at 26 degrees Sagittarius from March 29 to Sept. 4. Pluto retrogrades are the time to reflect on how you are using your personal power.

For Sun, Moon and Rising Signs

Aries (March 21-April 20) Developing patience is key this month. Impatience represents the fear that there isn’t enough time. Worrying less about the future and concentrating on the moment is the strategy.

Taurus (April 21-May 21) You are bursting with creative energy now so make sure you have an outlet for it. Perhaps you could express this energy through creating poetry, music, design or artistic mediums.

Gemini (May 22-June 20) Communicating from your heart is important this month. Your words have great power and may overwhelm. Revealing your truth with compassion will be a winning combination.

Cancer (June 21- July 20) Time to exercise some “tough love” with intimates and co-workers! If your gut is tied in knots it’s time to speak the truth about what’s going on to those who can make a difference.

Leo (July 21- Aug 22) Are you having an “identity crisis?” You’re like the onion whose old layers are being peeled off. The good news is that the change you’re going through will bring new authenticity.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sept. 22) You are being asked to break out of your old ways of relating. Stretch yourself and experiment with your personal edge. By letting go of past hurts you become way more available.

Libra (Sept. 23- Oct. 22) Time to pay attention to the mind/body connection. It’s especially important to be mindful of negative thoughts. Some sort of mindfulness practice will help you detach and remain calm.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) This year Jupiter in Scorpio will be at the same degree as your Sun. Take advantage of this expansive transit by being more visible at work and by developing new contacts outside.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec 20) What is your ideal scene? Do you have a clear vision of where you are going and how to get there? If not, it’s time to take that retreat you’ve promised yourself and get clear.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan 20) You’re becoming aware of the unconscious ways you drive yourself. If you grew up in “survival mode” part of you just can’t stop pushing. Being aware is the first step to change.

Aquarius (Jan. 21-Feb. 18) Freedom has always been important to you but now it’s essential. You may not have a lot of tolerance for others right now. Take space and give yourself the independence you need.

Pisces (Feb 19-March 20) Authentic expression and in-the-moment awareness are key this month. You may be more emotionally detached than usual. It’s the difference between empathy and sympathy.
